Welcome to Gowri Samayalarai Today lets watch how to prepare Tamarind Rice I have already uploaded raw Tamarind rice in my channel This tamarind rice is mostly served in Temples The taste is because of the fried spices The measure is for 3 to 4 persons Rice 200 gms cooked to 3/4th stage Take a normal lemon size of tamarind and crush it in water in to pulp One and a half teaspoon coriander seeds 1/2 spoon pepper 1 spoon jeera Dry roast this 3 spices While dry roasting heat up the tamarind pulp Now grind the dry roasted spices Now add the grinded powder to the cooked rice Add 1/2 spoon gingelly oil Mix the rice well. Add 1/2 spoon gingelly oil again Now for sauteing take 4 to 5 spoons of gingelly oil Mustard, Urad dhal and bengal gram 4 Red chilies curry leaves Rock salt Asafoetida Now the tamarind pulp is boiled well Heat 4 to 5spoons of gingelly oil in a Kadai Add Mustard, Urad dhal and bengal gram to the hot oil for sauteing Then add the red chilly Add asafoetida 1/4 spoon Add 1/4 spoon of turmeric powder Keep the flame to low Add curry leaves Now add the boiled tamarind pulp Add the required amount of salt Add a small piece of jaggery The combination of Tamarind and jaggery gives different taste Leave it to boil for 3 to 4 mins. Once the salt and jaggery is melted, put off the flame Now allow the tamarind pulp mixture to cool down Cooked rice mixed with spices powder is also cool now Do not mix all the rice with the pulp b’coz if the pulp quantity is more then the mixture would not be appropriate Take 3/4th of cooked rice mixed with spices powder in a bowl Now add the pulp little by little Now mix it gently The rice should not be hot, bcoz while mixing, it forms as lumps. Then add the balance rice then add some more pulp paste and mix well Now there is some pulp left over You can store the extra pulp in fridge You can use this pulp again with the cooked white rice Salt is less, so I am adding some more Now the tasty Kovil Puliyodarai is ready Try this at your home and send us your feed backs

  40. I made it today and turned out badly..I am a regular puliyodharai maker..tried ths way as it looks different..but the jeera,pepper,malli powder it changes the taste..
