How to Clean Grill Grates SAFELY Without a Grill Brush | The Barbecue Lab 4K

Welcome back to The Barbecue Lab. I’m
David Gafford and today we’re gonna talk about how to clean your grill grates. When most people think about cleaning
their grill they’re thinking about using one of these. I mean you have these wire
bristles on each side. You maybe have some wire bristles of a brush on the top.
And these have worked for years and years and years, but I mean as of late
you’ve probably been seeing like I have on Facebook ads and a few other places
where people are really starting to hate on this idea of the traditional grill
brush. And why is that? Well it’s because these little bristles can and
actually eventually do fall off of this brush and can get lodged in the food. Or
they could get stuck in a grate. And there’s starting to be a new way that
everybody is starting to clean their grill. And in doing that it’s not really
using this so much anymore. Now there’s multiple ways to do it. You can cut an
onion in half and you can rub an onion on top and an onion does a really good
job of cleaning it. And if you think about what they do over hibachis they’re
almost always constantly using lemons to clean and lemons are a great cleaning
agent. But what we found is that we don’t really use this so much anymore what
we’ve done is we’ve moved to another simple tool. It’s something we use in
barbecue all the time. It’s aluminum foil. And aluminum foil is a great way to
clean your grill grates off, and I want to show you how to do it. It’s as simple
as just taking a little bit of aluminum foil, balling it up, and then you’re gonna
take this and use it just like a brush on the top of your grill. And it’s gonna
be able to get down into all the nooks and crannies. It’s gonna be able to make
sure it polishes off the top really well. And you’re gonna find that this gives
you a great clean to the surface of your grill grates. Alright so that’s really
all there is to it. One of the things I really like about aluminum foil is it
actually it conforms to the grooves of the grill. And so you’re actually getting
a really good clean as it conforms to the grate of the grill and that’s
something that you don’t always get with everything else you use. Now I
think this is a great solution. If you haven’t given it a try, try it next time.
You’re gonna clean your grill grates? Use some aluminum foil. It’s a great idea.
